These two singles were recorded during the sessions for Jackal and Dove and Mortal Moon, but they didn’t really fit with either of those releases. “So Fine” is one of those pure pop songs that felt as if we pulled it from the air where it had been waiting for us. For “You and Me” we took John Donne’s poem “The Ecstasy” and tried to wrestle it to the ground and submit. Needless to say, Donne won, but here are the results.

  1. So Fine 45 Souls 1:57
  2. You and Me 45 Souls 3:29

Lyrics

So Fine

It’s so fine
I think it’s really something
Oh, no, it’s true
And we all know a good thing’s coming
It’s waiting there for you

Wanna be the one you want
Be your reality
Wanna be the feeling good for me

I just want to be the one you want
I just want to be the one you come home to

You and Me

This ecstasy doth unperplex
We said, and tell us what we love;
We see by this it was not sex;
We see we saw not what did move; (29-32)

So look out…

But as all several souls contain
Mixture of thing, they know not what,
Love these mixed souls doth mix again,
And makes both one, each this and that (33-36)

And whilst our souls negotiate there (17)
All day the same our postures were (19)

You and me
When love with one another so
You and me
Animates two souls (41-42)
You and me
We then, who are this new soul, know
You and me
Of what we are composed (45-46)

To our bodies turn we then, (we then) that so
Weak men on love revealed may look;
Love’s mysteries in souls do grow,
But yet the body is his book. (69-72)

And whilst our souls negotiate there (17)
All day the same our postures were (19)

You and me
And if some lover, such as we,
You and me
(Have heard this) dialogue of one,
You and me
Let him still mark us; he shall see
You and me
Small change when we are…. are to bodies gone (73-76)
